Engineering Notice

Applies to all Bearhawks except the LSA

Jonathan Battson from New Zealand reported a flap pulley failure, where the cable tension caused the pulley to split apart. Overloading or a defective pulley may have been involved. The pulley was located under the floor behind the baggage area.

This has never happened before to our knowledge. The pulley is rated for the application. A much stronger pulley (MS20220-A1) made of aluminum would be a good replacement although it costs about twice as much. Keep a good check on the cable for condition. Applications where the cable makes an 80-degree or more turn and is under high tension are the best use for aluminum pulleys.
